Molly a 9-year-old black...

Molly a 9-year-old black lab was adopted from my local animal hospital.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What is wrong with the dog?

My lab, Molly has become very skittish since the roommates(drug addicts) started having loud, screaming fights. They have even screamed and threatened the dog.Molly is normally very calm and loves the backyard where she romes free..Se is now reacting to noises most not loud and would not have disturbed her previously.Does she need to see a Dog Psychologist?

Veterinarian's Assistant: The noise must be worrying. I'll connect you to the Veterinarian. What is the dog's name and age?

Molly, she is 9 years old and very attached to me.

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Molly?

9

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Molly?

She has been fixed and sometime in her past, her tail was bobbed not like a pincher but unnaturally.

No they were evicted by local sheriff on repeat threts of violance to me.

Good, so I would recommend that you see your vet and ask your vet to place Molly on some fluoxetine until Molly can have time to settle down this will help her feel more relaxed.....

They have been gone for 2 weeks and she has not settled down, restles and not interested in her usual things.

You don't need a behaviorist at this point but she does need some drug therapy until she can feel safer again....

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

it will take months with drug therapy for her to settle down......

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Once dogs become scared, it takes drug therapy and much time to reverse this....

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Not interested in drug therpy, I had a Golden an the drugs wrer not a pretty sight.

Unfortunately drug therapy is only thing that can help a dog......you cannot do cognitive behavioral therapy with dogs.....and a dog vet behaviorist will insist on drugs....used properly drugs work great....

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Dogs cannot be fixed without drugs.....that is just how it is.....because you cannot talk with them and reason with them...I hope that makes sense...
