Thank you for your question. My name is***** I have been a small animal veterinarian for 15 years and I'd like to help with your question.

So, I understand that Stella eats thing that she shouldn't. Can you tell me if she has always done this or if this is a new thing for her? Also, does she drink large amounts of water also? And you mentioned that she has grey poop, but is it otherwise normal... not soft or diarrhea?

It's soft, not diarrhea. This started two weeks ago? She has enjoyed others poop since puppy- yuck. I rarely see her eat. Her 13 yr old sister tends to dominant food bowl.

The color of the stool usually strongly reflects what they are eating although some kinds of bacteria can also cause soft stools and abnormal stool color.

Eating poop and other things that are not their own dog food can happen due to some hormonal imbalances that make then hungry and crave things that are not really food. However, it usually is just a behavioral thing. If she is feeling well and not having obvious diarrhea I would focus on getting her diet under control. Don't leave food down. Feed her and her sister in 2 bowls, maybe even in separate rooms so they can each eat. Give them 15 minutes to eat and then pick the bowl up. Do this 2-3 times a day. They will get used to eating when it is down and will let you know she is getting dog food. Do your best to prevent her from eating other things.... put the cat food high, pick up dog food. Once her diet is under control, add a probiotic. I like Fortiflora, but most pet stores will have probiotics that work fine. Its either a paste or a powder to put over their food. Once this is all done then her stool should become very normal.

I hope that helps, but if you have additional questions please let me know.
