My small dog ate...

My small dog ate some grapes last night and has not been himself. Should I take home to the Vet?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

He is 2 and a half years, he is a Pomeranian named Bandit. I gave him pepto bismol which seem to help a little.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name?

Bandit

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Bandit?

He’s been laying down most of the day. Has got up just for short times.

He weighs 8 pounds, about 2 or 3 red grapes, no vomiting or diarrhea. I'm not sure if he's had a bowel movement.

Any other symptoms besides being lethargic?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Friend, grapes are toxic to dogs, but, toxicity depends on the amount consumed. In this case, I am 100% convinced that 2-3 grapes are going to be toxic to an 8 lbs dog. However, some dogs can be more sensitive than others. I would not give Pepto Bismol. You see, Pepto has salicylate acid which would not be good if he is dealing with kidney problems secondary to the grapes. Unfortunately, on history only I will not be able to pinpoint the exact underlying cause, I am sorry. I would strongly recommend having him checked by a veterinarian for a hands-on examination and blood work as an initial screening test. Treatment will be based on exam and test results.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you have any follow-up questions don't hesitate to ask. If finished, please take a moment to rate my service it is how I get compensated. See you again soon!
