Friend, when a dog drinks more water than usual it is a sign an underlying medical problem. There are many possible causes. I will not be able to pinpoint the exact underlying cause without a hands-on examination and some testing, I am sorry. But, common causes are an active infection, hormonal disorders (diabetes, cushing's), kidney or liver disease and even cancer to name a few causes. To determine which of the above is the underlying cause Bana will need to see a veterinarian for a hands-on examination, blood work (chemistry profile, T4 & CBC) and urinalysis as an initial screening test. Treatment will be determined by exam and test results. For example, if the vet finds that Bana is a diabetic they will start her on insulin and a diet change; if she has an infection they will treat her with antibiotics, etc. So, to establish a treatment plan Bana will need to have some testing done. If cost is a concern I would look into your local ASPCA or Shelter where they often offer veterinary services at a lower cost. Strongly recommend having her checked as soon as you can.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service - I hope I've provided the information you were seeking, if you feel you have received anything less, please reply back as I am happy to address follow-up questions. Kindly rate me when you are done.

Thank you very much for your response. She gets regular checkups with a great vet but my husband is away on a business trip and with two herniated discs in my back it is hard to boost her into the SUV. however, this sounds serious enough that I will take her tomorrow. Much appreciated

I am sorry to learn about your herniated disc. Perhaps you can have someone help you take her to see the veterinarian.

You're welcome. :)
