My daughters seven pound...

My daughters seven pound Maltipoo just ate my husband’s 7.5 mg meloxicam. We tried giving him hydrogen peroxide to make him vomit and so far nothing. He ate it about 20 minutes ago and we don’t know if he’s going to be ok or if he needs to go to emergency clinic

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your husband's Maltipoo will be able to digest that. What is your husband's Maltipoo's name and age?

Newt. Four months

Are you here?

I am sorry to hear that your 7 pound pup ingested 7.5mgs of Meloxicam.

We do use this drug in dogs but at an initial dose of 0.1mg per pound or 0.7mgs for a 7 pound pup. (7lbs X 0.1mg/lb = 0.7mgs)

Your dog took ten times a normal dose. In short that can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, gastrointestinal ulcers, possibly perforating and kidney failure.

He needs to go to emergency immediately to induce vomiting, and follow up with activated charcoal and intravenous fluids.

DO NOT take this lightly, this is a huge overdose.
