My 85 lb golden retriever ate a small amount of organic plant food that had been sprinkled around a plant. What should I do if anything?

Plant food is not toxic. It can however cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and gas. If he just ate a little bit then you may not see any signs at all. If he does develop gastrointestinal upset, treat it symptomatically.

If he has vomiting or diarrhea, fast him for 12 hours with no food but water. That is to let the gastrointestinal tract rest. Then slowly introduce something bland such as plain cooked chicken and rice.

You can give him one tablet of 10mg pepcid ac or one tablet of 75mg zantac every 12 hours as needed for nausea.

Those are over the counter stomach acid reducers.

For diarrhea you can give human pepto bismol. 1 teaspoon per each 10 pounds of dog every 8 hours as needed.

For example, an 80 pound dog would take 8 teaspoons every 8 hours.

I don’t think he ate more than a tablespoon or two as it was sprinkled around the plant and hadfallen down between the rocks that surround it. the product contains feather meal, one meal, alfalfa meal, poultry manure (probably what attracted him!) sulfate of potash

If he does not have signs or symptoms then you do not need to do anything out of the ordinary. Does that help? Do you have any other questions I may assist you with?

Yes, dogs seem to go for manure of all sorts. (yuck)
