Hello. My name is***** am happy to help you with your question. Give me just a moment to respond and type.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Plant food is not toxic. It can however cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and gas. If he just ate a little bit then you may not see any signs at all. If he does develop gastrointestinal upset, treat it symptomatically.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

If he has vomiting or diarrhea, fast him for 12 hours with no food but water. That is to let the gastrointestinal tract rest. Then slowly introduce something bland such as plain cooked chicken and rice.

You can give him one tablet of 10mg pepcid ac or one tablet of 75mg zantac every 12 hours as needed for nausea.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Those are over the counter stomach acid reducers.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

For diarrhea you can give human pepto bismol. 1 teaspoon per each 10 pounds of dog every 8 hours as needed.

For example, an 80 pound dog would take 8 teaspoons every 8 hours.

I don’t think he ate more than a tablespoon or two as it was sprinkled around the plant and hadfallen down between the rocks that surround it. the product contains feather meal, one meal, alfalfa meal, poultry manure (probably what attracted him!) sulfate of potash

If he does not have signs or symptoms then you do not need to do anything out of the ordinary. Does that help? Do you have any other questions I may assist you with?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Then he only had a tiny amount. That is good.

Yes, dogs seem to go for manure of all sorts. (yuck)

Thanks for your help—I didn’t know where to turn on a Sunday, so appreciate that this service is available.

I would not expect anything more than mild stomach upset if anything.

Does that make sense? Do you have any other questions?

If you are all set, please rate my answer by clicking on the stars or accepting the answer.

That lets me know how I did and lets the website know I responded to your question.

Feel free to reply at any time even after you rate the answer.

You are very welcome.

Glad to help.

For future reference plant food and fertilizer are not toxic. Week killer and round up are toxic.
