Hello, I'm Dr. Bruce. I have over 17 years of experience as a veterinarian and I'd like to help. Please give me a moment to review your concerns.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Thank you for your question. For a dog that is 30 pounds to eat 10.6 grams of 86% cacao chocolate, it shouldn't be a problem. That chocolate is definitely the more toxic chocolate when compared to milk or white chocolate. If he'd eaten more or been lighter, then the toxic dose would be higher. For one his size to eat this amount, there really isn't anything that should happen and thus no specific treatment is needed.

Thanks! That appeared to be the answer to me, but wanted reassurance for the family. Thanks again!

It is always best to make sure with possible chocolate ingestions. The situations can be very serious if just a few variables are changed. The good news for Mory is his size and the amount he ate wasn't that much. If he was 10 pounds and he ate two of these, then he would be in an extremely serious situation that absolutely requires further care. Tell hi to stay out of trouble.
