My male Dachsund is 11...
My male Dachsund is 11 years old and 18 lbs. A few days ago he started limping on his front left leg. When I applied pressure to leg/paw there was no reaction. He also looks like he doesn't feel well. His face is very sad. Then this morning he peed in the house. He hasn't done that in 10 years.

Welcome to JustAnswer.com! My name is***** and I have been a licensed veterinarian for 10 years. I would be happy to answer your question. I'm sorry to hear your that your dachshund is not feeling well. You mentioned that he did not react to you pushing on his paw. Can you please try lying him on his side, left front leg up, and pulling on it? He should pull back if he has normal neurological function.

Hi there! I just did that and he did not pull it back at all.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Dog Veterinarian replied 4 months ago

Okay, that's a sign of a nerve problem. Dachsunds are prone to developing back problems, specifically slipped discs. The disc then puts pressure on the spinal cord, which affects nerve function. I suspect that this is what's going on. Conservative treatment involves strict cage rest and prednisone. Some dogs require back surgery to regain normal function. I would get him to the vet for back x-rays before he gets any worse.
