My 1.5 year old 80lb yellow lab Charlie just ingested 2 x 80mg Simparica tablets. For 44.1-80lb. He accidentally ate his brothers. Is this too much for his size or should he be ok?

Hello, this is Dr. Linda. I hope I can help with your concerns today.

I truly believe Charlie will be just fine. If he were just a pound or two over 80 pounds, he would be on the next size dose anyway, so this essentially makes this a very mild overdose. According to the manufacturer, only a small percentage of dogs showed any adverse signs even after receiving 5x their regular dose. So Charlie will be fine. No need to do anything.

I hope this makes sense & you find the information helpful. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.

Thank you for the information. My Vet also has my two labs on Trifexis. Would it be ok for Charlie to get his recommended dose of Trifexis? It is the dose for 60-120lbs dogs.

I would wait 2 weeks before giving the Trifexis, just in case. Actually, some recent information now indicates that you should always separate the newer flea & tick medications from the "plus type" heartworm preventatives by two weeks because some dogs have had medical problems getting both on the same day. So even with your other dog, separate the 2 medications by 2 weeks.
