Hi, I am sorry your dog has vomited but I am sure he will be fine. This amount of cheese may well cause an upset stomach, but there should be no concerns about toxicity. If anything it is good he has vomited as this will remove the cheese from the stomach.

I would now allow his stomach to settle but starving him for 24 hours but ensuring you offer water.

I would then start him on a bland low fat diet for a few days to allow his stomach to recover. Try to feed a 50:50 mix of protein (chicken, turkey, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese) with carbohydrate such as potatoes, rice, pasta. Feed small but frequent meals, building up over a few days to the normal meal size and frequency and then if everything is still good, transition to his normal food.

However, if he is not settling and is becoming quiet, subdued or lethargic or continues to vomit then you will need to get him checked by your vet. Sometimes a sudden high fat diet can cause irritation in the pancreas which would need medical intervention.

Good luck and best wishes

Dr Dan

No this response is fine. The phone # I typed had a typo and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it.
He’s stopped vomiting but my concern is his HR is still
About 180. Is this normal? He was only vomiting for about 3 x over 2 hrs - last vomited ab 130, he did drink water and kept it down and was drinking fine. Gums are a bit dry but not pale. His energy was ok when awake. Cap refill is fine.

He’s about 30 lbs

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Thats great the vomiting has stopped.I wouldnt be too concerned about the heart rate at this stage. Often intense stimulation of the stomach and intestines can cause stimulation of the heart, this is called a vagal response. As long as he is settled, not distressed and breathing OK and drinking I would monitor him. If he becomes unsettled or the heart rate persists then I would get him checked. The pancreatitis I touched on maybe a consideration and this can cause pain (as such an increased heart rate)
Good luck and keep me postedRegardsDan
