Hi. My name is***** Thank you for your question. Can you give me an estimate for the amount of this peanut butter fudge. A couple ounces? How long ago was it eaten? Is Sam acting normal now?
Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
maybe 6 ounces, about 7:30 p.m.. he had thrown up a little bit, runny, tan. normal for bedtime, laying down and maybe sleeping. Don took him for a short walk after we discovered it.
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
No, I don't want a phone call, I want an answer.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 4 months ago
Ok. Fudge is one of those products that can vary with the amount of the toxins in it - methylxanthines. It is something where I don’t like to take chances. Enough was eaten to upset his stomach. Could enough have been eaten to cause more serious neurological stimulation and heart stimulation? 6 oz is a lot for a dog that size. In the perfect world he would get to the Er clinic to be evaluated. If his heart rate is elevated then he could need treatment for that.

Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 4 months ago
At home, there isn’t a lot that you can do there for this. Time and rest is the mainstay of that at home care. At the Er clinic, they can give medicine to settle the stomach, activated charcoal to absorb the toxins still in the stomach and recirculating, and also do IV fluids to help get the toxins elimated sooner. If seizures happen, they can treat those. If the heart rate is really up, they can give medications to slow it to a normal rate.

My husband took him for a walk after we discovered it. Sam's heart rate doesn't seem too fast. We'll let him go to sleep in our bedroom as usual.
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
hope he is better.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 4 months ago
If the vomiting continues, his heart rate starts to be elevated, any seiazures happen - then things are getting more serious. If he can sleep and not have more vomiting, then maybe the worst is behind.

Going to bed now. Will not continue this plan and need to cancel or opt out or whatever I need to do.
