My 9 year old lab ate a heavy flow maxi pad about 10 hrs ago and is showing signs of discomfort. Is there something that I can give her to make sure she doesn’t dehydrate and block up?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the lab will be able to digest that. What is the lab's name and age?

Eva, 9

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Eva?

She has done this before and passed it well.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Oh Eva! Good news is I don't think she'll have a problem with that if she ripped it up well. If she ate it fairly intact then there is a possibility of it getting stuck (but she's a big dog, so it might pass whole as well!). If she seems uncomfortable I'd give her 20mg of pepcid AC twice daily to settle her stomach. I wouldn't change her food unless you're seeing diarrhea, then switch to a bland diet (boiled chicken/hamburger and rice) for a few days. If she stops eating or can't keep food down, get to a vet for xrays to look for an obstruction.
