Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Minnie Mouse. That was 65 mg l theanine

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Minnie?

My only concern is the thiamine. Generally, no treatment shoud be required with most overdoses og thiamine as excess drug will be excreted through the urine. 10,000 mg of thiamine is quite an overdose, however, and hypotension (low blood pressure) and respiratory depression may occur. I would induce emesis with 30 mL (2 measuring tablespoons) of 3% hydrogen peroxide given with a small poultry baster placed between her cheek teeth and cheek. Minnie Mouse should vomit within 15 minutes. If not, please repeat the same dose. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

I just gave her the first dose.

Keep me posted, please.

She has not thrown up so I gave her a second dose.

Thank you. Keep me posted.

She still has not thrown up. She seems fine.

The peroxide has been in the house for several years. Does it have a shelf life?
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
It expires in 2012.

Yes, it turns to water. That's unfortunate. How is Minnie Mouse currently acting, please? Still fine?

When I gave her the last dose it foamed in her mouth. She is behaving normally. It is close to bedtime so she is resting next to me. She sleeps on my bed. What if I watch her tonight?

Yes, I'd like you to check on her every 2-3 hours. I have to leave my computer for the night and so I'll opt out which will allow another expert to enter our conversation if need be. If you don't need help please return with an update in the morning.

OK.

May I have an update on Minnie Mouse, please?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Thanks for getting back to me. She did finally throw up a couple of times and had an up and down night but she seems to be fine now. She hasn’t eaten yet and has very runny stools....but she had a stool. I am guessing that is a good sign.

Thank you for the good update. Yes, the worst should be over. Diarrhea is expected after ingesting so much of something unusual. It should be transient and no lasting adverse effects are expected. I can't set a follow-up in this venue so please return to our conversation - even after rating - with an update at your convenience. You can bookmark this page for ease of return.
