She’s a small dachshund...

She’s a small dachshund about 8 lbs. I believe my son’s medication was we dropped in the floor and she may have ate it. It was two pills. Both were Clonidine 0.1mg each.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Her name is ***** ***** she is less than 1 year old. We have given her 1 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. She has vomitted quite a bit.

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Joy?

Less than 1 yr

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Joy?

Not that I can think of. She ate it probably about 45 mins to 1 hr ago. She started vomiting about 10-15 mins ago.

Hello, this is Dr. Linda. So you were able to give her the peroxide within 30 minutes of eating the Clonidine?

Roughly 30 mins or so. Yes.

OK, great. First, this was only a mild overdose, & since you got Joy to vomit so quickly, I think she will be fine. Some of the drug may already be in her system, so just watch her for the next 60-90 minutes for sedation, depression, shivering, all CNS signs that may occur. I would feed her a snack every 30 minutes because the clonidine can drop her blood sugar. A lick of Karo syrup or a piece of cheese would be fine. This does two things, you are keeping her blood sugar up & you are checking her reflexes/reactions. If she seems to be acting fine over the next 90 minutes, then she will be in no danger, which I doubt she ever was. Good job getting her to vomit.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
