I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Fritter, please?

You’ve described hematochezia – blood from the anus with or without feces. Fritter's vet will need to consider quite a few possible etiologies for the bleeding. They include the following:

anal sac gland impaction, sacculitis, or abscess

neoplasia – perianal adenomas are the most common of the benign tumors while the most common of the malignant tumors is the anal sac adenocarcinoma - neither are likely in such a young dog

perianal fistulas - most common in the German shepherd

anal stricture - uncommon – most often found in middle-aged to older males

trauma – e.g., from passing a foreign body in the stool

proctitis (rectal inflammation)

colitis – idiopathic (unknown cause), food allergy, infection (bacterial, viral, parasitic)

coagulation disorder – not a common cause of hematochezia; ingestion of an anticoagulant rodenticide might be considered if you've used such a product to address the mice

Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

He is doing good now! I believe your response re mice is the culprit-prior to chking out this site I spent $425 at urgent care-for xrays which showed nothing. Thank you -and he is doing well-no blood in stool now-treatment waa waiting it out with some pain meds!

i have a 12 wk old Yorkie weighs 2lbs. Have had her for three weeks and she's been the happiest, fun loving, playful and healthy eater. Last nite after a normal day of play and fun, she took a little nap and woke suddenly screaming in pain and hiding. It was normal feeding time so fed her as usual and she ate well. Slowly over the next 3-4 hrs she experienced more severe pain, some stiffness, and it occurred when she was just lying still or when picking her up to take outside to potty. She had a restful nite and this morning the symptoms seemed to get worse. I took her to ER clinic and Vet examined her and said it appeared she had injured her shoulder. After X-rays and radiologist Report, nothing definitive could be found anywhere. Vet said there were insignificant indications of gastroenteritis but very mild and possibly a smal injury to her right wrist. He prescribed pain med, anti inflammatory, antibiotics and probiotics and I brought her home. She's done noting but lie in playpen and every time she moves a certain way she screams in pain. Oh, and she has started peeing on herself when she's crying in pain. I'm concerned the Vet has misdiagnosed her condition as she has no limp or specific reaction when I touch her shoulder or wrist. She eaten only once today but she isn't raking any Water. I'm terribly worried. … read more
