I have a 6lb Gorky that is 16 years old,her mother died a week ago,I had a drastic food change due to a recall on the food they have been eating for years today as I came into the kitchen thier was bloody red jelly type poop all over the floor, I'm wondering if she needs to go to vet, she's up to date on all her shots

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What sort of animal are we talking about?

A yorky

Veterinarian's Assistant: Maybe I'm confused. I thought you had a problem with a pet. Is that correct?

Yes

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the yorky's name and age?

Susie,she's 16 years old

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Susie?

16

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Susie?

She lost her mother 1 week ago,and have changed her food

She seems okay now,but still concerned by all the poopy jelly like blood spots all over the floor, she only weighs 6 to 7 lbs

I'm sorry for my delay as some cases at work quickly pulled me away. That is great that she's looking normal and that she's eating / drinking well! In a situation like this, what typically pushes a case to needing veterinary care is if she's not eating / not drinking / vomiting. The change of food could have temporarily thrown off her intestinal tract and caused the stools to be like this. IF this is the case, then time and her adjusting to the new food most likely are the things needed. IF she starts to vomit or stops eating / drinking, then the situation could be more involved in one called hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. These cases do need veterinary care to make sure they stay up on their hydration. If she is otherwise doing great, then time may be the big thing here. If she isn't spayed, then the question as to if this material is from her vaginal area is something I bring up.
