Customer Question
I just foundt hat...

I just foundt hat my dog had gotten into a bag of Russell Stover chocolate candies... they were small squares of Mint Patties, peanut butter, pecan delights and toffee bars covered with chocolate....pkg held 10 oz for 18 pieces...he ate apx 12 pieces....this happened between 3:00 pm and 9:00 today....so 6 hrs before I got home.....no signs of upset stomach or being sick so far...what should I do?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Gator - 8 yrs old......He also ate the little paper wrappers....

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Gator?

Not that I know of......he's quite active and healthy...the first time he's ever gotten into anything like this....

Approximately how much does Gator weigh?

I'm not sure if you're still there, but the good news is that even if Gator is a small dog, he did not ingest nearly enough chocolate to be considered a toxic dose. The paper wrappers should pass in the stool without a problem. If he is smaller, it is more likely that he may end up with a loose stool over the next day or two. If he is a larger dog, you may not see any signs at all. Either way, continue to feed him normally. I hope this was helpful.
