My 4 year old golden retriever just started having siezures…

Customer Question
My 4 year old...

My 4 year old golden retriever just started having siezures - one yesterday and one today. This happened since we came back from vacation and he was in a kennel. Do you know what that could be. We will take him to the vet tomorrow

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Seizures always look scary. Let's get you talking to the Veterinarian. What is the Golden Retriever's name and age?

Beau age 3.9 months old

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Beau?

No - he has always been a very healthy dog. After the seizure he drinks alot of water

So.....Beau will need to have a very thorough physical examination along with a complete blood count, chem panel, lyte panel, 4dx test and a urinalysis.....if all of this is normal then Beau likely has Idiopathic epilepsy and this can be treated but will have to be treated life long...

if that does not work then phenobarbital with a liver support agent like denosyl would be my next choice...
