My dog tore into...

My dog tore into a bag of styrofoam packing peanuts. I don't know how many he ate; he can't really chew because he only has the two large canines in front.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Butch, about 12 years old. He's a Chinese Crested and weighs about 12-13 pounds.

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Butch?

About 12 years old.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Butch?

He's generally healthy.

Hi

Dr. Paul Brazzell here

No clinical signs thus far

And were they the edible ones or for sure styrofoam?

Paul

Styrofoam. He's lying in his bed, but that's what he usually does most of the time.

Thanks

I am not too panicked here

We can push those through

Give 1-2 tablespoons of canned pumpkin with each meal for the next few days

That will make sure there are no blockages

Update me in the AM

Watch for vomiting, not eating and no stool

Okay?

Paul

We have two dogs, and I'm not sure if Butch or Sundance or both of them are pooping, but somebody is. I haven't seen any styrofoam, but I'm definitely seeing pumpkin. Both of them seem like themselves, with a normal activity level, and both are as desperate for food as usual. Butch is able to beg on his hind legs and spin in circles when his bowl is ready like he always does.

Sorry for the late response. I had to take my husband to Urgent Care, and it took all morning and into the afternoon.

Hope hubby is okay!

Influenza B, as it turns out.Is there anything else we should look for regarding Butch and the pellets? What time frame should we be concerned about?
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
We've been giving the dogs pumpkin, and the styrofoam started to pass yesterday. How long should we be on the lookout?

Great job!

Give it another 24 hours
