Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. There are all sorts of infections the pit can pick up. I'll have you talk to the Veterinarian who'll sort out what is wrong and help you decide what to do about it. What is the pit's name?

Elmer Fudd

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Elmer?

Ok

Dogs can get infections in the penile sheath. When the penis comes out for urination, a microscopic bacteria could have gotten on it and then when it went back into the penile sheath, where is it warm and moist, a bacterial infection developed.

Because it is most likely bacterial, a course of antibiotics will be needed to resolve it.

Most regular vets are open on Saturday mornings so you may be able to have him seen today.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

The sores on the skin around the penis can be treated topically with over the counter neosporin antibiotic ointment three times a day.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

If he is licking the area, the sores and the penile infection are going to get worse or not resolve.

You can put a e-collar, cone collar, or inner tube collar on him to prevent licking.

They sell those at vet clinics, online, and at larger pet stores like Petsmart.

Ok ty soo much for your time

Normally the infection responds well to oral antibiotics and that resolves it.

I've already got everything i need n thankfully he's too chubby to reach there to lick lol but i do have a cone collar just in case n i have a full bottle of anti biotics from something else he had n didn't end up needing them so I saved them in case. Ty soo much this dog is my whole life!

Hey, that is great you already have everything on hand. Especially since it is a weekend.

Lol, is he is that chubby he does not need an e-collar. : - )

My dog is my only child and my best friend.

If anything changes, please reply again.
