I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner and I'm sorry to hear of this with Cookie. Regretfully, there's usually more than one thing going on in a 14 year old.

Reverse sneezing can arise secondary to an underlying nasal or nasopharyngeal disease - most often an allergic or infectious disorder. When it occurs daily or several times a day and/or is accompanied by other clinical signs, Cookie's vet will need to consider a nasal or nasopharyngeal tumor/polyp/cyst, foreign body, abscess, mycotic (fungal) infection, chronic lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis/sinusitis (an immune-mediated inflammation), nasopharyngitis, and nasal mites. In most cases, symptomatic therapy is provided in the form of a prescription glucocortioid (steroid) such as prednisone (preferred) or an over the counter antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) dosed at 1 - 2 mg/lb at 12 hour intervals. Only if my patient doesn't respond to such therapy do I investigate further.

Shaking/shivering usually indicates pain, anxiety, or both. Her sequestering herself is a nonspecific sign of pain and/or illness. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
