Hello and thank you for using this site to help you. I am sorry your question was not picked up sooner.

Can you tell me please, is he walking a bit more gingerly? Is there any arch to the back?

Will he jump on and off furniture?

Has there been any vomiting or diarrhea?

What color are his gums?

Have you looked at his anal glands under the tail?

He just wanted to get on couch but wouldn't try it

thank you for that information. I would be concerned about a disc issue in the spine known as intervertebral disc disease.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Sally G., Dog Training Consultant replied 3 months ago

This is when the soft tissue that cushions the disc suddenly turns hard and presses on the nerve. Dogs will often shake from the pain. They will not be playful, may limp, may have a slight arch to the back, they walk slower. If it is near the neck area they won't move their head very much. They may look at you only by moving their eyes, not their neck

I would try a baby aspirin in a little teaspoon of canned dog food and see if that helps.

If you notice a difference then I would contact your Vet for a safer anti inflammatory med.

Use only aspirin , not tylenol or ibuprofen products as these are toxic to dogs.

Keep him well rested with going out for potty reasons only.

could it just be from him jumping off the bed as he did that yesterday and when he got back on bed that's we noticed a diff in him
The aspirin how much should I give him as he's only 5lb
Dog Veterinarian: Sally G., Dog Training Consultant replied 3 months ago

yes the jumping could have aggravated a problem that may have been starting

Here is a little more on this problem

Here is dosing for aspirin

http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/acetylsalicylic-acid-aspirin/page1.aspx

do not use aspirin for more than two days tops or stomach ulcers can occur
