No, she's no spayed, it's been going on about a couple weeks, yes, more than usual, no pre existing conditions, no meds, I didn't check the abdomen, funny smell

1- Where is the funny smell coming from?

2- Do you see a vaginal discharge?

Her urine I think...she keeps licking herself, what should the discharge look like?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Susan, when a dog drinks more water than usual it is a sign an underlying medical problem. There are many possible causes. I will not be able to pinpoint the exact underlying cause without a hands-on examination and some testing. But, common causes are an active infection, hormonal disorders (diabetes, cushing's), kidney or liver disease and even cancer to name a few causes. If she has been licking her vulva it is possible that she could have an infection and that may be the odor that you are smelling. As far as the vaginal discharge, if she has a bloody or whitish discharge this is consistent with an infection of the uterus (pyometra).

In this case, unfortunately, we are very limited as to what you can do at home, I am sorry. I would strongly recommend having her checked by a veterinarian for a hands-on examination, blood work and x-rays as an initial screening test. Treatment will be based on exam and test results. For example, if she is a diabetic she will be treated with insulin and a diet change, if she has an infection she will be treated with antibiotics or surgery, etc. If cost is a concerned I would look into your local ASPCA or Shelter where they often offer veterinary services at a lower cost.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you have any follow-up questions don't hesitate to ask. If finished, please take a moment to rate my service it is how I get compensated. See you again soon!
