Customer Question
Hello. My dog...

Hello. My dog ate my Aquafina lip balm yesterday. She woke this morning with watery eyes, lethargic, and no appetite. She was also unable to give me her usual signals that she needed to go the bathroom and messed on my kitchen floor. I don’t believe she ingested any of the pieces because they were scattered on my bed. She’s gotten into other things in the past, but I’ve never seen this reaction in her in the past.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Violet is a 6 year old Blue Healer/Border Collie mix.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name?

Violet

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Violet?

She’s an anxious dog who has been taking 20mg of Prozac successfully for 2 weeks now.

Violet is now showing a bit more energy. She went out to do her business and is currently eating her breakfast. Her eyes are still very watery, but seemed to have cleared a bit.

Violet certainly looks sorry for herself...thankfully, the ingredients in that product are of very low toxicity - as they must be because we necessarily ingest the balm - but I did notice ingredients likely to cause gastrointestinal distress in Violet - linalool, menthol, d-limonene, and citronella. Regretfully, there's no specific antidote and so we attempt to dlilute however much was ingested by overfeeding and encouraging the intake of tasty fluids such as milk, cream, broths, and bouillons. It sounds as it Violet is already normalizing and should then continue to do so. There are no expected lasting affects from such an inappropriate ingestion. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
