Customer Question
Our 6 month old...

Our 6 month old Havanese ate a 10mg that was dropped on the floor. She only weighs 7 pounds - a tiny little girl. She is the light of my life & am VERY afraid.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Roxie

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Roxie?

No - she's healthy, up to date on her puppy shots. Our vet says she could gain a little weight but as active (REALLY ACTIVE) as she is that may take some time.

1- How many hours has it been since she ate the pill?

2- What is the name of the pill?

3- Do you have hydrogen peroxide 3%?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
It's been about an hour & a half. The drug is 10mg AMLODIPINE BESYLATE
We have peroxide & have already given 4 tsp. with milk to induce vomiting but so far hasn't worked. That was almost an hour ago.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Peter, Veterinarian replied 5 months ago

Friend, you have done right in trying to induce vomiting. If she did not vomit after 4 tsp then not likely for her to vomit with hydrogen peroxide. This dose of Amlodipine can cause hypotension in a 7 lbs dog. Unfortunately, we are very limited as to what you can do at home at this point. I would recommend having her checked by ER veterinarian to monitor so they can address any hypotension that may arise. Or, you can monitor at home for the next 24 hours; if you notice symptoms of weakness/lethargy, excessive panting or difficulty breathing, pale gums, etc. have her checked by ER veterinarian. If no symptoms after 24 hours not likely for symptoms to develop.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you have any follow-up questions don't hesitate to ask. If finished, please take a moment to rate my service it is how I get compensated. See you again soon!
