Thankfully, those dryer sheets are considered of low toxicity to dogs. The automatic dishwashing detergents and single-use laundry detergent pods are our primary concerns with soaps, detergents, fabric softeners, enzymatic cleaners, and deodorizers. One sheet is likely to pass through her gastrointestinal tract unaided but you do need to watch for the tell-tale signs of obstuction - persistent vomiting and/or anorexia. You can add a teaspoon of psyllium seed (Metamucil) to each of her next three wet food meals which will act as a bulk laxative and help the sheet along. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Thank you. She is so small, I worry...
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 6 months ago

I understand and that's certainly a concern as the small diameter of her small intesting can predispose to obstruction. Thankfully, the cationic surfactants which are most worrisome are rarely found in dryer sheets. I can't set a follow-up in this venue so please return to our conversation - even after rating - with an update at your convenience. You can bookmark this page for ease of return.
