Customer Question
I have a 5...

I have a 5 year old Golden Retriever and 4 weeks ago she appeared to be in a lot of pain and holding up her back left leg. I took her to the vet and they did abdomen x-rays and labs and said everything was fine. I took her back to the vet 2 weeks later because she was still holding up her back left leg. At that time the vet thought she had an infection in her paw and gave us some pain pills and antibiotics. It has been over 10 days now since she started the antibiotics and she still continues to hold up her back left leg. Any ideas what could be causing her to do this? When we touch her back left leg she doesn't act like it hurts.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. There are all sorts of infections the dog can pick up. I'll have you talk to the Veterinarian who'll sort out what is wrong and help you decide what to do about it. What is the dog's name?

Ellie

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Ellie?

Originally her mood was very depressed, but over the last few weeks her mood is coming back to normal. At the first vet visit they were suspecting pyometra but ruled that out after the x-ray and labs.

Remember there is no limit on how many questions you can ask to in order to clarify any information I have provided regarding your pet. I just have a few initial questions to ask to gather some more information if you don’t mind? Is Ellie normal a very active dog? Are you noticing any swelling around the leg?
