Poor guy. Vomiting, diarrhea and decreased appetite in an older dog is a bit concerning. Also the shivering indicates he is either cold or painful. Poor poor Snoopy.

1) Has his condition stayed the same over the last couple of days? Any worsening or improvement or just the same?

2) Have you offered him a bland diet to eat?

3) Anything that you can think of he was given just before he got sick that could have caused an upset stomach?

PRETTY MUCH SAME MAYBE LITTLE WORSE..LIKE WHAT...NOT REALLY...OH GOT INTO SOME DEER SUMMER SAUSAGE...GRAB IT OFF THE COUNTER...

Oh no. This could have caused the stomach upset up that you are seeing. Have you given any medications so far or any bland diet?

You can try a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for the next 12-24 hrs. Also offering him some non-flavored pedialyte via syringe or small turkey baster can hopefully help keep him hydrated. However, any illness that lasts for more than a day or two typically needs medical intervention through your veterinarian.

Does Snoopy have any underlying health conditions I should know about currently? Or any medical history illlness? - Dr. H

Are you still there and in need of assistance with your pet Snoopy?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

NO AND NO...NO MEDS NO OTHER HEALTH CONDITIONS...HEALTHY OTHER THAN THIS..NO PROBLEMS PLAYING GETTING UP ON BED....HUNTING 3 4 HOURS A WEEKEND....NO PROBLEMS TIL NOW...
Dog Veterinarian: Drhollowayvet,

Ok. You can also try Famotidine (pepcid ac), which is dosed out at 0.5-1mg/kg once every 12 hrs. 1lb=2.2kg to help you with your conversion. This can help with some of the nausea and acid reflux that is occuring everytime he eats.

Now if he is not doing any better within the next 12-24 hrs or becoming worse he MUST go to the vet for futher care or I fear he will continue to decline and this can be life threatening. He really should be seen now b/c he sounds very unstable. But if you absolutely cannot get him in right now, you can try the above recommendations to see if they make a difference. - Dr. H

If the deer sausage is the cause ,then a short course of antibiotics, a bland diet, an anti-nause medicine from your vet should help get him back to normal. However, the vet may suggest doing some baseline bloodwork on him to ensure there are no other underlying causes for his illness, such as underlying kidney disease, pancreatitis, or even a liver problem. -Dr. H

HAVE APPT FOR 5:15PM TOMORROW......HOW DO I FIGURE OUT THE PEPCID THING WITH WEIGHT...HES ABOUT 30 35 LBS
Dog Veterinarian: Drhollowayvet,
 replied 7 months ago

So for a 30 lb dog, he would get around 1 (10mg) tablet of Pepcid every 12 hrs. I hope this helps! And best of luck with Snoopy. I hope he feels better soon!- Dr. H
