12 week old puppy continually biting and scratching body,

Customer Question
12 week old puppy...

12 week old puppy continually biting and scratching body, legs, and belly. It is not fleas. I have combed and brushed and inspected with a magnifying glass.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Using the wrong medication for fleas can be dangerous. You should definitely talk to the Veterinarian. What is the puppy's name?

Maui, male chihuahua mix

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Maui?

Not that I can think of

I understand your pet Maui has been biting himself constantly. Poor guy. I will say for a pet this young biting indicates he has an allergy and food or environmental allergies are not very common at all in a pet this young, so a flea allergy is the most likely culprit. Even if not seen, fleas are inconspicuous and can fall off just as easily as they jump on, leaving little to no evidence behind. You can only be sure that your pet didn't get bit by a flea by actually having him on monthly flea prevention. Unlesss of course he has some kind of injury to his skin that is bothering him. Have you inspected his skin too? Any red lesions or punctures/scabs seen?
