How old is he?

Is he up to date on vaccines?

Any chance he ate something that could get stuck in the intestine?

He is 8. And only had needles when he was little. Not sure if he could have eaten sometime to get stuck
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Gary, Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Ok thanks.

Vomiting in dogs can be due to many things including:
1. gastroenteritis (inflammation/ irritation/ infection of gastro-intestinal tract)
2. dietary indiscretion
3. foreign body obstruction
4. pancreatitis (infection of pancreas gland)
5. organ/ endocrine abnormality
6. cancer in older dogs

We typically shoot x-rays to rule out an obstruction and run bloodwork to rule out pancreatitis and organ disease. If this was just a day or two, then I would try some at home care. Since it's been 4 days, he's definitely going to be dehydrated. At the very least he'll need some fluids and anti-nausea meds. I think it's more likely that he'll need surgery (if obstructed) or in hospital treatment if this is due to some sort of metabolic or organ abnormality.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Should I try him with white rice tonight or wait until he sees the doctor tomorrow
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Gary, Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

If he goes a period of 4-6 hours with no vomiting, then I would try some water and a bland diet. If he vomits, then pull it up and wait until you see the vet.
