Customer Question
My dog ,a 13...

My dog ,a 13 year old Boston, vomited foam and a little bile. But there are hard chunks like white hard cheese. He's drinking, eating, outside stuff is normal.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did your dog eat anything unusual?

No. Just canned food mixed with a bit of deli turkey.

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. The Expert will know what to do. What is the dog's name?

Jaxon

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Jaxon?

Not really. He's a fairly active older dog.

I recommend monitoring Jaxon for the rest of the day. I would feed him a bland diet for the next 3 days. You can make this by boiling chicken breast with skin removed and mixing 50:50 with cooked white rice. If he continues to vomit, then I would recommend taking him to your primary care veterinarian for further evaluation. If he does not have any additional vomiting, then you can add back in his normal dog food on day 4.

He only vomited a couple of small amounts of bile and foam. In one there was this chunk of cheese like material. He has been outside to get anything strange (-15 below). Are there common?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Hasn't been outside other than to do his thing.

Does he chew on bones, nylabones or rawhides?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
No. Hasn't had a big appetite for his canned food but wants to eat everything else. So he isn't refusing food.

Okay, sometimes if they vomit up rawhide it can look like hard white chunks. At this point, I would not worry about the white chunks in the vomit. If he continues to vomit, then I would be concerned that there is an underlying issue. However, a single episode of vomiting indicate an upset stomach (gastroenteritis - GI inflammation). Similar to people who can get sick seemingly out of nowhere and be fine within a few hours.

I had heard of something that begins with a "b" which is something that is somewhat like a hairball in cats. They can form in dogs gut. I did save the chunks and will have them looked at.

I'm not sure what you are referring to that starts with letter "b". But, yes saving the material in a ziplock bag is a good idea. I do hope he feels better and this was just a one time thing. Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding Jaxon. If you are satisfied with my responses please hit accept and leave a 5 star review. Thank you very much and happy new year!

I took him in and they did an Cray. No tumor or obstruction. Np vomiting in 36 or more hours. No diarreha or bm in 24 hrs. He'll be on I Vet digestive food for 3 days. Conclusion is remnants of a cheekbone which didn't digest and finally presented itsself.
