I am sorry to hear you are worried about Patterson. How long ago did he eat the gum?

Was it already chewed gum or fresh?

Is Ice Breakers sweetened with xylitol?

About 10minutes ago. About 2 weeks old yes it had xylitol
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

This could be an emergency. Xylitol is very toxic to dogs. Do you have any 3% hydrogen peroxide? What does he weigh?

had xylitol He ate it about 10 min ago yes I have peroxide wht. 28 lbs
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

I see, 28 pounds. Put 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of 3% peroxide in some milk or ice cream and get him to drink it. If he vomits the gum back up, he should be OK

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

Even so, this stuff is so toxic, I would take him to emergency to have his blood sugar monitored. If his blood sugar stays normal then he should not get sick from it. You could just go to emergency to have them induce vomiting, and monitor him.

Any luck getting him to vomit?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

not yet
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

You really should get him to an emergency clinic if he is not vomiting up the gum. They have drugs that will make him vomit, and can monitor his blood sugar. Low blood sugar is the first sign of xylitol poisoning.

Was the peroxide in date, fresh and fizzy? If not, it won't work.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

Low blood sugar is only the first phase of xylitol poisoning. Some dogs then go into liver failure, and die. This stuff is nasty. If he has not vomited, can you take him to an emergency clinic?
