Customer Question
My 7 week old...

My 7 week old Great Pyrenees puppy has a soft tissue injury. I forgot to ask the Veterinarian if I can give him any pain medications. Can I? And if yes, what?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What is the Great Pyrenees's name?

Wrigley

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Wrigley?

He is not wanting to walk because of the injury

if your veterinarian examined him already and didn't prescribe any specific pain medications, then I would definitely hold off on giving him anything. Plus there is no human medication that I would recommend giving a dog his age. He is quite young and if it was just a soft tissue injury then with strict rest and confinement he should heal rapidly. If he is not healing quickly, then I would definitely get some safe pain medications from your veterinarian next week.

Or if he is not healing quickly then I would take him back to your veterinarian for a follow-up exam to make sure that there's nothing more serious going on with a joint or a limb. This may require x-rays.
