Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today.

How long have you been seeing these signs?

Can he keep any water down?

Are his gums pink or white/pale? Moist or sticky?

If you press on his belly, any tensing, tenderness, discomfort, or pain?

Could he have eaten anything harmful (ie bones, toys, plants, chemicals, human meds, etc)?

We have seen these signs for two and a half days now
He cannot keep water down, he drinks and throws up immediately. He also refuses to eat
His gums are pink and moist.
There is no tensing, tenderness, discomfort, or pain.
None that we know of.
I gave him one pill of Cerenia and 3mL of gastrafate. After I gave him Gastrafate, he felt better yesterday but it is not working today. He weighs about 10 lb
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
he makes no unusual sounds and his breathing is normal.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. B., Veterinarian replied 6 months ago

Hello again,

What milligrams was the Cerenia you used?

Has he vomited since that?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
24 mL and he has thrown up once afterwards
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
is there anyway you can send a prescription of cerenia and antibiotics to Walmart?
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
are you still there?

hello
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. B., Veterinarian replied 6 months ago

Hello again,

I am afraid that is illegal, prescriptions can only be written for patients that are seen in person. Still I would suggest that you could choose to use an OTC pet safe antacid [ie Pepcid (More Info/Dose @http://www.petplace.com/article/drug-library/library/over-the-counter/famotidine-pepcid), Zantac (More Info/Dose @ http://www.petplace.com/article/drug-library/library/over-the-counter/ranitidine-hcl-zantac)]. Whichever you choose, we’d give this 20 minutes before offering food to allow absorption. Of course, do double check with your vet if he has a known health issues or is on any medications you haven't mentioned. Though if he cannot keep it down due to nausea, that is usually a red flag that we need to bypass his mouth with injectable anti-vomiting medication from his vet.

Afterwards, you can try an easily digestible diet like cooked white rice with boiled chicken, boiled white fish, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, or meat baby food (as long as its garlic/onion free). The aim of these diets is that they will be better tolerated/absorbed by the compromised gut. Of course, as you used these we'd need to monitor closely. Especially as he has vomited post Cerenia which raises worries of a gut blockage here. So, if he doesn't respond to one of these, we'd need him seen to check for a blockage but also rule out a gut infection here.

Kind regards,

Dr. B.
