I'm concerned that that yellow mucousy discharge represents pus and so rather than pregnant she may be pseudopregnant (false pregnancy/pseudocyesis) with an open purulent endometriosis (pyometra). "Open" means that the cervix is open and pus in the uterus can roll out the vagina. This is safer than a closed cervix which traps pus inside the uterus and my patient becomes quite ill quickly. I would have her vet take a look at her and examine the discharge microscopically. If there's any evidence of infection, a complete blood count and either X-rays or ultrasound of her uterus are indicated. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Will she be okay until Tuesday to see a vet? Our vet is not working due to the holiday?
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
Is it possibly anything else? We will be so disappointed if she is not pregnant and worried she is sick :(
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

As long as she's otherwise well there's no risk to waiting until Tuesday. Yes, the discharge might indicate normal vaginal secretions associated with pregnancy or pseudopregnancy but I am concerned about the color which usually is pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of pus. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
