Customer Question
Hi - my 9 year...
Hi - my 9 year old Maltese/yorkie is out of sorts. He's very lethargic, seems to be uncomfortable and won't lay on his side or back. He's eating lightly and drinking but doesn't have any interest in his favorite treats or playing or his usual habits (chasing the vacuum).
I considered it may be a back problem but he ran up stairs a few times today. I'm not sure it's an emergency but am worried since with the holiday, our normal vet is unavailable for a few days.

Hi

Dr. Paul Brazzell here

I would be happy to help you!

I agree that this does sound musculoskeletal

The other possibility is an upset stomach

NO vomiting or diarrhea?

Paul

Hi -Thanks for responding so quickly. He vomited twice a week ago but hasn't since then. He's going to the bathroom regularly - no diarrhea.Leah
Dog Veterinarian: DocPaul, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Bingo!

So is it is GI and not MSK

Okay now we know which direction to take this

Do you have Zantac at home?

Paul

I'm confused. He vomited a week ago but has not vomited since then. And, he does not have diarrhea. I don't see how that is a GI issue.
Dog Veterinarian: DocPaul, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

My bad

I misread your question- super busy right now and I skipped the "last week" part

I apologize

Okay can you push down on his back for me?

Paul

He twitched once when I got about 2/3 of the way down towards his tailbone. Then, I tried again a couple of times, and he didn't react at all.
Dog Veterinarian: DocPaul, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Okay

Was hoping that he would help us here :)

Not to worry

He does NOT have to go to the ER

We are going to rest him at home- only goes out to go to bathroom

And lets give Aspirin at 10.0 mg/pound with food twice daily

Please update me tomorrow AM

Okay?

Paul
