We have a 10 year old Wheaton Scotty (female) she threw up…

Customer Question
We have a 10...

We have a 10 year old Wheaton Scotty (female) she threw up earlier tonight, about 4 hours after eating. She has just laid around since then, although she has set up a few times and burped. She seems to be having some muscle problems now at 3am. Can't seem to walk well (especially back legs) and when we try to get her to drink a little, it seems like she can't keep her head up and nose dips into the bowl. Although she is a little bit more alert after having some water.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What sort of animal are we talking about?

She at around 5pm CST, and it is now 3am here.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Maybe I'm confused. I thought you had a problem with a pet. Is that correct?

Scottish Terrier

Veterinarian's Assistant: This sounds like it might be serious. I'll let the Veterinarian know what's going on ASAP. Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about the Scottish Terrier?

Not that we are aware of. We use to have a 24 hr vet here, but we don't know, and won't have one available for 5 hours at 8am.

It seems like since she is laying down, it is hard for her to drink. If we keep the bowl elevated, she can drink okay.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on her, please?

Regretfully, while her symptoms are important they're not pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of any one particular disorder. Have any new symptoms appeared that might help clarify what's going on with her?

We have been at another vets today, as ours was closed. Blood work normal, temp 102.5, adjusted back a little, found a mass in stomach area we will have ultrasound done on in a few days when that Dr. is in to see if any attachment to anything. She is listless today and doesn't want to move much. Has ate a little and drank water well, and they said not dehydrated. She just looks like she feels like crap. Bowel/urine movements today, and they are fine, although she won't walk much after doing her business. Have her on pain pill and antibiotics now. Luckily this vet is open 8-12 tomorrow (Sunday) in case she isn't better. Thanks, Mike

A "mass" certainly is worrisome. Do follow up with an ultrasound. I appreciate your getting back to me. I'd like to hear what's found in the ultrasound, please.

Will do. The doctor working tomorrow is the one that can do the ultrasound, so we will see how she is doing tomorrow. We do plan on doing it, it just may not be tomorrow. Strange that this came on so suddenly as only a few hours before she was playing and gruffing around at me outside.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

We call this "acute on chronic" which means that something had been brewing for quite some time but just recently became clinically apparent.

Hi,
I'm just following up on our conversation about your pet. How is everything going?

She is still doing fine. Back to normal. We will get ultrasound scheduled now that our vet office is back open.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 1 month ago

Good to hear. Hopefully that "mass" wasn't a mass at all.
