Our border collie might...

Our border collie might have ingested 75 mg. Cymbalta, and 20 mg. lisinopril. She weighs about 8 pounds. Will she be ok?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if Might will be able to digest that. How old is Might?

The dog's name is Nala. She is about 4 months old. She might have ingested the pills, we are not sure.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Nala?

She is very healthy.

But we found the lisinopril so she only got the one 60mg Cymbalta

I am looking up the toxicity data for you. Give me one second.

Was it a 60 mg or 75 mg cymbalta?

60mg
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Christina, Dog Veterinarian replied 4 months ago

The toxicity data is limited. However, typically we don't see signs until they have ingested more than 20 milligrams per killigram. If she weighs 8 pounds (3.6 killigrams). 60 mg cymbalta would be 16 mg/kg. 75 mg cymbalta would be about 20-21 mg/kg. With either one, she should be ok.

The most common side effects in dogs would be dilated pupils, disorientation, vomiting, tremors, and seizures. Any neurologic sign could occur with this medication. Typically I would see these within 60-90 minutes after ingestion.

She should be fine with the 60 mg. She may be a little more sedate that usual. But this should pass within a few hours
