Customer Question
My ***** ***** Terrier...

My ***** ***** Terrier (approx. 35 lb.) consumed about 2 Lindt / Lindor Truffles, one Extra Dark Chocolate, one Milk Chocolate & 2 to 3 Almond Rocas, 1 Sea Salt Caramel Roca, 1 Almond Roca, & 1 Dark Roca. I am keeping an eye on him, so far no vomiting or diarherra. Not sure when the actual ingesting took place, woke up at around 7 A.M. to find that he had gotten into a Christmas Basket. Please let me know what you think.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did your dog eat anything unusual?

Yes, what I told you is diffenitly not a normal.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name and age?

Baxter is his name, he is about 12 yr. old.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Baxter?

I don't think so, he seems like he is doing fine and is well, just getting older.

If Baxter has remained asymptomatic of theobromine toxicity (vomiting, agitation, tremors soon after ingestion) at this time, he should remain well. It takes a bit less than 35 ounces of pure milk chocolate or 11 ounces of pure dark chocolate to intoxicate a 35 lb dog with the theobromine in chocolate. He had a nice selection of candies but they don't add up to such amounts of chocolate. As with ingesting anything unusual transient gastrointestinal distress in the form of inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea can arise but Baxter wasn't intoxicated. There's no need to induce emesis or treat in any manner. Please respond with further questions or concerns.
