Customer Question
Hello, I'm just now owning...
Hello, I'm just now owning a little dog, who favors a black yorkie, and I have had him since October and we love each other. I was heartbroken to find he was limping and screaming when he wroke up.from his outside play time. He is not acting like himself, and im scared he got hurt even by a automobile, and I don't know what to do. He will let me hold him, however I can tell he's almost panicking but I believe he trusts me, cause I'm the only one who he will let be around him. Please help, I don't have allot of options.best regards, ***** *****

Which leg appears to be painful to him?

Is he bearing weight at all on the affected leg? or holding it up and walking on 3 legs?

Has he eaten today?

Ok that would be great, he tried to put weight on it earlier, and after I saw hes just panting. He screamed and I got him, and I gave him elevated to help, he wants to walk, and I just gave him water, if I go to get him food I know he'll try to follow me, and I jus noticed some of his hair on his leg looks a little bald. He doesn't like this, I can tell, and he acts like he doesn't want me to leave him. He wanted to go out so we both went.

It's his back left leg
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Denise, Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Ok, I agree it sounds like he injured his back left leg.

Unfortunately, there are no safe human pain medications that I can recommend for him.

I best recommendation would be to have him seen by his veterinarian for a hands-on examination. He is definitely in need of pain medications and may need xrays to further evaluate his leg.

Treatment will be based on exam and test results. If cost is a concern I would look into your local ASPCA or Shelter where they often offer veterinary services at a lower cost.

In the meantime, you can apply a cool compress to his leg for 15min to reduce any inflammation/swelling he may be feeling. I recommend keeping him confined and restricted any running, stairs or rough play until he can be seen by the vet.
