I'm sorry to hear of this with Frankie. In the adult dog, excessive licking and/or discharge may be caused by chronic congenital (present at birth) abnormalities, infectious diseases of the external genitalia (e.g., canine herpesvirus or Brucella canis), urinary tract infection, and systemic or reproductive tract diseases including prostatic disease, trauma, or tumor. If Frankie is intact, prostatitis is an important consideration. If he's been neutered, prostatic adenocarcinoma is an important consideration. Frankie's vet will need to reflect Frankie's prepuce back in order to examine the entire penis for infection (balanoposthitis) or neoplasia. A urinalysis should be considered as well. Additional diagnostics may be necessary predicated upon Frankie's initial exam.

Is the bulge under his anus still present? If so, can you upload a photo of it to our conversation? You can upload photos by using the paperclip or add file icon in the toolbar above your message box (if you can see those icons on your particular device) or you can use an external app such as dropbox.com/ Please check that the photo(s) is in focus prior to uploading it.
