Hi, I took my dogs temp with a digital, 100.2, that’s good,,,,,but the probe cover came off and it’s still in his anus. He has been having diarrhea, we switched his food recently, I’m afraid the loose stools won’t have enough bulk to force the probe cover out.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about your dog?

He’s 30 pound spaniel

Hi, I'm Dr. Peter. Welcome to JustAnswer. I am sorry for the delay in response it appears no experts were available when you posted your question.

1- To make sure I got this right, are you talking about the disposable plastic one puts to cover the thermoeter or the actual piece part of the thermometer?

2- How long has it been since this happened?

3- Did the diarrhea start before or after the probe stayed inside the rectum?

4- Have you been checking through the stool for the probe cover?

It was the soft plastic disposable sheath. I dropped him off at the vet because I was worried and had not heard back from anyone.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Peter, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Okay.

If he is with your vet I guess you do not want to continue here. Very likely he is going to be fine. Good luck!
