Customer Question
He's a 4 month...

He's a 4 month old Havanese puppy. My wife picked him up from the breeder in Portland, OR on Sunday and flew home with him back to Las Vegas. He got diarrhea yesterday but we thought it was stress related from the trip and leaving his home. He didn't want any water or food this morning and is now throwing up.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the puppy eat anything unusual?

No mess. Wasn't much vomit at all, second episode today. We just fed him the puppy food the breeder sent with us, and water. Nothing else.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name?

Boomer

The most common cause of anorexia, vomiting in a puppy is viral and usually it is parvo virus....can also be internal parasites too....but internal parasites are also possible....either way this puppy needs to be seen tonight and a vet ER......

Ok, he's had all his shots the breeder said. You don't think its stress from being in a new home? He flew Sunday night and introduced to a new home/family/kids, etc. Also went from sleeping on the breeders bed to in a crate at night next to our bed. Just wondering if its not too much for him.

stress can cause diarrhea......does not cause inappetance and vomiting....

Just so you know breeder shots are only as good as the person giving and how they were handled very very important....

The stress of the trip likely helped a sub clinical disease become clinical....

Off and on, he's played with the kids quite a bit and was a lot of fun this morning, tons of energy running around, but now he's pretty tired, but hasn't eaten anything so there's probably a lack of energy involved. I understand about the breeder issue and shots, but I'd be shocked as this breeder is pretty renowned and known to our extended family as well, she shows at Westminster, etc. She's extremely thorough, but doesn't mean mistakes couldn't be made, just wanted to note where the puppy came from. I think we'll take him in, just worried about him.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

You should definitely take him in as this could be serious viral, serious internal parasites or foreign body and these are all serious......for puppy and your kids potentially.....can I help you further?
