Customer Question
My 20 lb 9...

My 20 lb 9 year old Cavie ate tootsie rolls. Not sure how much. He did this around 2 this afternoon. He has thrown up 3 times. A lot. Wrappers and all. What should I do?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What sort of animal are we talking about?

King Charles Cavalier

Veterinarian's Assistant: Maybe I'm confused. I thought you had a problem with a pet. Is that correct?

YES. Our King Charles Cavalier dog.

Veterinarian's Assistant: The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Bentley

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Bentley?

He has a heart murmur but it'seems controlled well with medication

does it appear that he threw up lots of chocolate with the wrappers?

Customer reply replied 8 months ago
He got into a 12 Oz bag of midget tootsie rolls. He threw up wrappers of about 25. He hasn'so thrown up in about 3 hours. He's resting in my lap as usual.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago
If he vomited most all of the chocolate then he will likely be fine. You can take him into your vet for observation and fluid diuresis if you are not sure about amount of chocolate. If you choose not to go that route you need to watch for elevated heart rate, nervousness, ataxia or being wobbly. If you see any of these signs you must get him to your vet immediately. I do hope this helps you and I sincerely ***** ***** will be fine. I will be back online tonight if you have additional questions. Sincerely drb
