When you say he is not able to move around much is that because of the limping or leg pain? Or is he so lethargic he will not get up and move around? What happens if you stand him on his feet and try to get him to walk?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I stood him up and he fell to the side
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Gabby, Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Thank you. Has he eaten his usual amount today? When did he last eat?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
He ate this morning around 8am ... I left home and just returned about 1hr or so
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Gabby, Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Okay try rubbing some honey or karo syrup on his gums in case his blood sugar is low. While you are doing that can you check his gum color please? Is there any chance he got into the trash or something toxic?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Ok .... ill do that, doesnt look like he got into anything I found him in the same spot I left him this morning ..... he normally barks and runs to the door when I get home
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Gabby, Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Thank you. If he does not perk up in 10 minutes of putting the karo syrup or honey in his mouth he needs to go to the vet right away. He is not having any specific signs, where I can tell you what body system in involved, but his lethargy sounds severe.

The regular vets should still be open at this time so hopefully that will save you from the emergency clinic prices.

If he was limping, and he has a fever related to the limping, he could have an infection.

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Gabby, Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

He is not having coughing, sneezing, vomiting, or breathing trouble which would help us pinpoint the body system involved. But he is not having any of those. He does sound very lethargic so it would be best for a vet to see him right away. Does that make sense to you?

I have a 5 yr old Havanese. He's normally full of energy but the last few days he's been staying under the living room table, which he struggles to get under due to some weight gain. He has whined a few times and I haven't been able to see why. (I also have a German Shepherd) When he wouldn't come out from under the table, I got on the ground to pet his head. He started whining again. I had to move the table to pick him up. He whined again. He's not moving much at all...still eating, but not his norm. … read more
