Customer Question
Jimmy has a large...

Jimmy has a large lump on front paw. Vet gave him a shot of antibiotics but it has returned and extremely smelly and sore. Needs removed but he’s too old. Kidneys not functioning well enough for surgery. I have to either keep it wrapped so he doesn’t lick it but I believe that’s causing the infection to continue. Can I just keep getting him the shot each time it gets infected??

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. What sort of animal are we talking about?

Cocker spaniel

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. There are all sorts of infections the cocker spaniel can pick up. I'll have you talk to the Veterinarian who'll sort out what is wrong and help you decide what to do about it. What is the cocker spaniel's name and age?

Jimmy, 12

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Jimmy?

Vet said surgery dangerous because of age and kidney function.

I am sorry to hear Jimmy has this infected lump on his foot. How big is it?

It could be safe to keep giving the injection, but it would help to know what it actually is.

You could also give antibiotics by mouth.
