Thank you for this question about Sadie. What was the chorhexadine gluconate on? Was it in a bottle that got spilled and she drank it? How long ago did this happen?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
Bottle, she drank 3oz, soap, 2 hours
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

How is she acting at this time? Is she licking her lips or seeming uncomfortable in her oral cavity? Since this happened, has she ate or drank?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Chlorhexidine gluconate in lower concentrations is used as a dental rinse for dogs - it is typically around 0.12% in those solutions. At higher concentrations, it has the potential for some corrosive injury to the oral cavity. It could cause ulcers that could take around 12 hours to fully show up. With and ingestion like the, I would rinse out the oral cavity and monitor for development of ulcers. If they develop, then treating them should be done through your vet as needed.

She seems normal, hyper, playful, eating an drinking, not licking her lips

What should I do
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

If she's acting just hyper, I wouldn't be overly worried about that. I wouldn't want to see her seeming painful with her mouth, not wanting to eat, licking a lot, etc. If she's comfortable, eating well and drinking well - then it doesn't seem to be an issue.

I'm curious to hear how Sadie is doing at this time. I would love to hear back about her.

Customer reply replied 8 months ago
She's her normal self, playful, chasing the cats, being a puppy
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Bruce, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

That is awesome that she's her normal self. This turned out the best way possible and what I was hopeful for. Give Sadie a good petting for me since I can't and tell her to stay out of trouble!
