Hello, I'm Dr. Kara. I have over 20 years of experience as a veterinarian and I'd like to help.

I'm sorry to hear that Maxwell is limping and seems to have discomfort in his right rear leg.

  1. Is he bearing weight on the leg at all?
  2. Did this seem to happen suddenly?
  3. Does that leg seem to have any changes in angulation compared to the right rear leg?
  4. Any swelling on that leg?
  5. What was he doing before he became lame?
  6. Is he eating and drinking normally?
  7. Is he running a fever (rectal temperature greater than 103F)?
  8. Will he let you flex, extend, and palpate his leg?
