Is Gina on any medications to help with osteoarthritis?

Generally, a dog who is 16 years of age will have significant arthritis in their hips and knees.

Is she eating and drinking normally?

If you help her can she walk to potty or is she urinating and defecating on herself?

When a pup starts to go downhill we also need to make sure their quality of life is still at a good point. I know this is hard to even think about but is Gina still able to enjoy life?

To help her get back some walking function I would recommend looking into acupuncture. Here is a link to locate a veterinary acupuncturist

http://www.tcvm.com/Resources/FindaTCVMPractitioner.aspx

I would also make sure she is on joint supplements to help keep what cartilage she has left healthy. Your veterinarian will have one that is prescription strength

There is also cold laser therapy which your veterinarian may have that can help these older pups get back to walking.

Making sure she is on arthritis medications like anti-inflammatories are also imperative.

Some dogs, however, do no regain function which is a major problem and often these dogs begin to suffer and unfortunately need to be euthanized. I know this is hard to hear. At 16 years old you must have a ton of memories and to think about losing her must be very painful.

I think that is a good course of action so we can see if we have a hope of reversing this.

Let me know how it goes. Hopefully, by utilizing the acupuncture and laser therapy and supplements with medications we can try and keep her with you longer

If this was helpful I would be most appreciative if you could take the time to rate my assistance so the site will credit me with helping you

Without a rating (the stars at the top) the site will not compensate me for helping you.

I am also here for additional questions you may have, just reach out to me here and I will be more than happy to assist you.

Kind regards,
