My dog [a mini-petite goldendoodle, 1year old] is perfectly fine all day. walks fine on leash, plays with toys, sits ouside for hours with nary a bark. Later when it turns dark outside, she starts running around the house in a FRENZY barking her head off for hours. Why?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Strange behavior is often perplexing. I'm sure the Dog Trainer can help you. What is the dog's name and age?

Sasha and she was one last August

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Sasha?

14 months

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Dog Trainer should be aware of about Sasha?

No...she eats well, sleeps well...seems happy.

Are you home with Sasha all day?

What type of home do you live in, a single home or apartment type home?

Do you know what she is barking at?

When did it start?

What commands does she know?

What have you tried so far to stop it?

I am home with Sasha all day except for "ins and outs". I do not know what she is barking at; she just races from room to room in a frenzy and barks. About six weeks ago. She knows "sit" and "give me your Paw". I try to put her in her crate - she barks....I try to get her to play with her beloved toys - she barks and runs - I try to hold her and calm her -- she squirms to get away and barks. For a dog that doesn't bark once all day, she sure makes up for it at sundown!

Thank you for that information. Since it started six weeks ago I would look into what changed suddenly. Something in the neighborhood or inside the home. New decorations, new neighbors, new dogs in the neighborhood, construction etc. that she is associating with the night fall. Is someone coming home from work and letting out a new dog /puppy etc.

I would also do some more training with her and I would teach her the command leave it as this command can be used from everything to chasing cars to food dropping on the floor to barking.

At nightfall I might start a training session with her so she has something else to concentrate on.

I might also play some calming music and try a DAP collar for calming. Make the music (or TV) loud enough so that outside noises are not heard, close curtains or block off visuals to the outside in case it is something outside that gets her going.

Step outside when she starts and give a visual and sound inspection of the area, you may be able to figure out something that way.

I would do clicker training with her as it is positive based and you should be able to hold her attention longer.

I might also teach her the commands speak and quiet so she knows the difference when they are used.
